Authors' pages and your bookshelf

We have added a few new features on MindTheBook. You can now see author’s pages, where we list all author’s books / questions and where available we add links to their Facebook, Twitter, Blog and Youtube - all in one place. See example Gary Vaynerchuk or Tim Ferriss.

From now on you can also create your virtual bookshelf on MindTheBook. Add books you love, are excited about or simply want to read in near future.

We are looking forward to your comments.

More books please

One of the comments we have seen a lot recently is that the mechanism of adding books manually by users on MindTheBook.com first of all takes too much time and besides the database is still very limited. Therefore our users find it immposible to find many of the books they could recommend. We fully acknowledge this fact and I would like to briefly explain our plans here.

We have launched MindTheBook.com with a version we believe is good enough to bring interest and value to the users and at the same time enable as to test the concept and discover what works well and what does not. The desired process has always been to automate it and have a big database of books available for users to pick from. And I assure you this is coming soon. We are in the process of adopting a few available APIs, which will give an amazing volume of books to MindTheBook and will streamline the user experience. We will still allow books to be added manually, but the main source of books will be fully automated. Stay with us, we promise to make it work as soon as possible.

In the meantime if you feel passionate about a book not yet available in our database, please add it through “Suggest a book” button, it takes really less that it seems and we don’t need you to add a cover, we will do it for you.

Thanks in advance for patience.

MindTheBook.com - every book answers a question

Launching "Give me five"

One of the ways we want to make MindTheBook.com more interesting is via engaging the book authors in the community of our website. The first step towards it is the “Give me five” initiative, which is launching today, where we will regurally ask books’ authors to give us the top5 questions they aimed to answer with their book. We are curious how the questions given by the authors will match with the questions added by the readers. Stay tuned, very soon we will have our first author.

If you are an author and would like to participate in “Give me five”, please contact us via the contact form on the main page of MindTheBook.com . We can´t promise we would publish all the submissions, but we will try out best. Your book should have an ISBN number.

Beta is live. Test and let us know what you think.

Finally, after lots of smaller and bigger challenges we have managed to launch the beta version of MindTheBook.com . Although we know it’s not the end state, we are proud to invite you to pages of MindTheBook.com today and we would be pleased if you could contribute to creating the content there. Add your questions, suggest some good books you have read. And at any point let us know how we can make MindTheBook.com better.

Very soon we will be organising some fun initiatives with free books to win. Stay tuned and let us know your thoughts about the beta version we have just launched.

Cheers

Where does the idea come from?

I love books. I feel bad if I don’t read a few pages every day. I do it on the train, before going to sleep, while eating, while relaxing, while on the beach, sometimes while walking on the way from my office to home. I try to mix, so I read fiction and nonfiction - a good balance has worked well for me. Since getting my Kindle 3 it become even more practical, no more heavy books - just a small Kindle full of books from my virtual library.

Some time ago I thought it would be great to connect my two passions: books and internet, and create a hobby web project dedicated to books. The brainstorm I ran produced a long list of ideas, ranging from a books store online, a blog on new, interesting books and many more. However I felt I wanted to do something that does not exist yet (maybe for a good reason :), I shall see soon ), but anyway I thought it would be great to create something new. From that point until today the idea has evolved into a Q & A page, where the answers to the Questions are Books, so effectively MindTheBook.com is a Q & B = Questions and Books :)

But this is only the first step. Today MindTheBook.com is about social Q & B interactions, but while the idea details have been getting more precise I realised that there is so much more we could offer and since then I carry with me a small piece of paper with MindTheBook milestones list, where we will be adding some new and fun stuff to the website. I hope you like the idea and execution and join us to grow MindTheBook.com
